Per tale motivo verrà data priorità a coloro che hanno una buona padronanza dell’inglese, siano cioè in grado di capirlo, farsi capire e imparare una scena in inglese a memoria. Gli studenti che necessitano di traduzione verranno ammessi solo se avanzano posti non occupati da studenti fluenti in inglese; in tal caso, verrà loro garantita una traduzione simultanea in italiano;

INTRO MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE
DATE: 28 Aprile – 3 Maggio (6 giorni; Mar. – Dom.);

ORARI: 9:30-13:30 (CLASSE AM) 14:30-18:30 (CLASSE PM) (24h totali per classe); PROGRAMMA: Gli esercizi base della tecnica Meisner, passo dopo passo: a partire dall’esercizio della “repetition” e la sua evoluzione in 4 fasi, gli esercizi di improvvisazione e poi la loro applicazione finale su un dialogo;
PREPARAZIONE: Il lavoro preliminare di memorizzazione dovrà essere completato prima dell’arrivo al primo giorno di lezione. Circa una settimana prima della data d’inizio, ai partecipanti saranno assegnate una o due pagine di testo tratto da una scena scritta in inglese. Sarà fornito in anticipo per facilitare l’apprendimento di nuove tecniche per 1) la memorizzazione delle battute; 2) la “realtà conversazionale” e 3) l’improvvisazione sul testo. Assieme al dialogo saranno inviate le istruzioni specifiche che spiegano come memorizzarlo. Si prega di seguire le istruzioni esattamente come indicato. Per alcuni, questo sarà un modo completamente nuovo di memorizzare il testo e potrebbe rivelarsi un po’ difficile. Le tecniche di recitazione apprese durante questo corso saranno applicate a questa scena negli ultimi giorni del corso. Scene complete e lavoro sui personaggi sono affrontati nella classe della settimana successiva ‘Scene Study Rehearsal Technique’.

ORARI: 9:30-13:30 (CLASSE AM) 14:30-18:30 (CLASSE PM) (24h totali per classe); PROGRAMMA: Apprendere come superare cattive abitudini recitative, individuare le circostanze date che precedono la scena, affrontare con sicurezza l’ingresso in scena, divenire consapevole del contenuto emotivo legato agli avvenimenti precedenti, scegliere le giuste attività fisiche da svolgere, individuare l’obiettivo del personaggio nella scena, le circostanze condivise e le relazioni con gli altri personaggi, qual è l’ostacolo, l’obiettivo del personaggio nell’opera, scelte interpretative significative e molto altro.
PREPARAZIONE: Prima dell’inizio del corso verrà assegnata una scena (da memorizzare perfettamente in lingua inglese);

BIOGRAFIA
James Price è il direttore e fondatore del ‘The Acting Studio – New York’ e della ‘Chelsea Repertory Company’, dove ha formato generazioni di attori e insegnanti sin dai loro esordi, rispettivamente nel 1983 e nel 1984. Prima di trasferirsi a New York nel 1974, Price si è laureato in teatro presso l’Università dell’Indiana e ha lavorato come attore professionista all’AEA.
Dal 1974 al 1976 ha frequentato e si è diplomato alla Neighbourhood Playhouse School of the Theatre dove ha studiato con William Esper e Sanford Meisner. Nel 1983 è tornato allo staff della Playhouse dove si è formato come insegnante sotto la guida diretta del signor Sanford Meisner, del quale fu amico personale e protetto per oltre 15 anni. Tra gli insegnanti più influenti con cui Price si è formato ci sono Sanford Meisner, Vivian Matalon, Suzanne Shepherd, Rose Arrick, John Grabowski, Benjamin Mordecai, Philip Gushee e William Esper.
Price è un insegnante di recitazione a tempo pieno dal 1982. Oltre all’Acting Studio di New York, ha insegnato al Trinity Rep Conservatory di Providence, RI; la Neighbourhood Playhouse, il T. Schreiber Studio, New York; e alla New York Film Academy nel programma annuale di recitazione per film, dove ha lavorato come istruttore senior Meisner dal 2003 al 2013. Nel 2022 è stato professore di ruolo presso la Columbia University insegnando recitazione a sceneggiatori/registi/produttori nel loro programma MFA Film School of the Arts. Continua anche a insegnare ad attori di tutto il mondo con Masterclass di Meisner.
Oltre al suo insegnamento, Price ha lavorato come attore (SAG/AFTRA), regista, insegnante, insegnante di recitazione privato e produttore in teatri regionali, Off-Off Broadway, teatri sociali e universitari. Un maestro che con 60 anni di esperienza, continua a formarsi e ad esercitarsi attivamente con i suoi colleghi dello Studio in collaborazione con la Chelsea Repertory Company dove produce, recita e dirige attivamente. Mr Price ha anche prodotto a New York City oltre 36 produzioni off-off Broadway e oltre 20 festival teatrali.

GENERAL INFORMATIONS
PLACE: Golden Theatre Academy in Roma, Via Taranto 36, (between the San Giovanni and Re di Roma stops on Metro A);
ACCOMMODATION: Participants’ responsibility;
LANGUAGE: Conducted in English. For this reason, priority will be given to those who have a good command of English, that is, are able to understand it, make themselves understood and learn a scene in English by heart. Students who require translation will be admitted only if there are places left that are not occupied by students fluent in English, in that case, they will be guaranteed a simultaneous translation into Italian.
CERTIFICATES: At the end of the courses a certificate of participation will be issued;
AGE REQUIREMENTS: 18 years and older;
ADMISSIONS:
– Intro Meisner Acting Technique: open to all. Both experienced or new actors in Meisner training and beginners in acting can be admitted;
– Scene Study Rehearsal Technique: intermediate/advanced, not for beginners.
To be admitted to the course you must first have an interview via video call.
INTRO MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE

TIME: 9.30 am – 1.30 pm (AM CLASS) 2.30 pm – 6.30 pm (PM CLASS) (total 24 hours per class); PROGRAM: The basic exercises of the Meisner technique, step by step: starting from the “repetition” exercise and its evolution in 4 phases, the improvisation exercises and then their final application on a dialogue;
PREPARATION: To make the work more fluid and effective, dialogues will be assigned in English a few days before the start of the course. You will have to have them memorized completely and perfectly for the first day and according to the instructions you will receive. They will not be real scenes, but conversations with which to train listening and the ability to improvise which will be learned over the course of the week. Complete scenes and character work are covered in the following week’s class ‘Scene Study Rehearsal Technique’.

TIME: 9.30 am – 1.30 pm (AM CLASS) 2.30 pm – 6.30 pm (PM CLASS) (total 24 hours per class); PROGRAM: learn how to overcome bad acting habits and how to break them; identify the given circumstances preceding the scene, approach the entrance with confidence, become aware of the emotional content linked to previous events, choose the right physical activities to perform, identify the character’s objective in the scene, shared circumstances and relationships with other characters, what the obstacle is, the character’s objective in the play, significant interpretative choices, and much more.
PREPARATION: Before the start of the course, a scene will be assigned (to be memorized perfectly in English);

Legendary American acting instructor, Sanford Meisner and the advent of his system of training actors is considered a watershed in the history of actor training. Master instructor James Price, was both a protege and personal friend to Mr. Meisner for fifteen years, and is the founding director of The Acting Studio – New York since 1983. At his studio in New York City where he heads one of the city’s most top tier staff in actor training, the Meisner training is ‘first generation’ and adheres to the system of exercises that catapulted the Meisner approach to the world’s top rung of actor training.
Acting in film and on the stage is storytelling and it is the actor’s job to make the audience believe real things are happening to real people. As an actor you are to make the audience believe you are person the story says you are, and to actually experience what the story says you are experiencing. So how does an actor accomplish such a task? By developing his/her ability to live truthfully, working moment by moment off what exists under imaginary circumstances.” Sanford Meisner spent his life formulating such a series of exercises, each building on a previous one, that helped an actor develop their ability to do just that. Meisner believed if you are truly an actor your instincts are theatrical and you must train yourself to follow those instincts. He believed the actors stumbling block was the intellect, and that thinking was the great enemy of perfection that separates an actor from his/her god-given instincts.
James Price is the founding Director of The Acting Studio – New York and Chelsea Repertory Company where he has trained generations of actors and teachers since their inceptions in 1983 and 1984 respectively. Prior to his moving to New York in 1974, Mr. Price majored in theatre at Indiana University and worked as a professional AEA actor. From 1974-76 he attended and graduated from the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater where he studied under William Esper and Sanford Meisner. In 1983 he returned to the Playhouse on staff where he trained as a teacher under the direct guidance of Mr. Sanford Meisner; to whom he was both personal friend and protege for over 15 years. Among the most influential teachers with whom Mr Price has trained he lists Sanford Meisner, Vivian Matalon, Suzanne Shepherd, Rose Arrick, John Grabowski, Benjamin Mordecai, Philip Gushee and William Esper.
Mr. Price has been a full time acting instructor since 1982. In addition to The Acting Studio – New York, he has taught at Trinity Rep Conservatory in Providence, RI; the Neighborhood Playhouse, the T. Schreiber Studio, NYC; and at the New York Film Academy in their one-year acting for film program where he served as senior Meisner instructor from 2003-2013. In 2022 he was an adjunct professor at Columbia University teaching Acting To Screenwriters/Directors/Producers in their MFA program Film School of the Arts. He also continues to teach actors from around the world in Meisner Master Class Workshops. In addition to his teaching, Mr. Price has worked as actor (SAG/AFTRA), director, teacher, private acting coach and producer in regional, Off-Off Broadway, stock and college theatres. A task-master with 60 years of experience, he continues to actively train and practice with his fellow Studio associates in conjunction with Chelsea Repertory Company where he actively produces, acts and directs. Mr Price has also produced In New York City over 36 fully-staged off-off Broadway productions and over 20 play festivals.
Over the years he has also trained numerous teachers in the Meisner technique fostering a new generation of teachers and he is featured in several books on acting, among them Stagecraft: (Stanislavsky and External Acting Techniques) by Robert Blumenfeld, The Actor’s Guide to Qualified Acting Coaches in New York by Larry Silverberg, and Acting Professionally by James Minos. Mr. Price has begun to slowly re-enter the acting profession in conjunction with his teaching, celebrity coaching and producing duties. He was most recently seen in the role of “Sister Mary Ignatius” in an online Chelsea Rep LAB Play Reading Group reading presentation of SISTER MARY IGNATIUS EXPLAINS IT ALL FOR YOU by Christopher Durang.
